There are signs at every turn helping you find your way, but you can in fact see the town of Oberammergau most of the time you are hiking, nestled under a distinctive rocky cliff. From the train station in Unterammergau walk in the direction of Murnau for about 40 meters until you reach an intersection. Make a right on Hofstadelstraße, walk about 20 meters and take a left on Weiherweg. Follow this road straight out until you come to another intersection. Bear right at the intersection on road called Feuchtenrainweg. You will stay on this road until you reach a fork. Turn left at the fork, which leads you up the hill. From here you will more or less stay on the same road, which turns into a dirt path, until you reach Oberammergau. The undemanding hike offers great views, and at the “summit” there is a restaurant and cafe known as “Romanshöhe.” It offers nice outdoor seating and friendly service. Romanshöhe is open from 10 am until 6 pm and is closed on Mondays.

The train station in Oberammergau is located in the northwestern part of the town. To get to the train station directly from the Romanshöhe hike, walk straight out from the street from which you will enter the town into Kasper-Schisler-Gasse. Take a left at Sankt-Lukas-Straße and continue in this direction over a stream and into Dorfstraße, and straight out onto Bahnhofstraße. About 300 meters from the beginning of Bahnhofstraße, the train station will be on your right. There are also signs leading to the train station from various parts of the town. As said, trains run hourly to Murnau, where you can make a quick connection to Munich.
