Kochel

The 9611 bus will take you from either Murnau or Glentleiten to the train/bus station in Kochel, which is a good starting place to explore Kochel. If you are heading back to Munich from here, or would like to stop in Benediktbeuern, take the train headed north toward Tutzing, from where you will connect to Munich.

It is about a 15 minute walk, well marked, from the train/bus station to the most celebrated attraction in Kochel: The Franz Marc Museum. The museum showcases the art of Der Blaue Reiter group. Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc published the first issue of Der Blaue Reiter in 1911. The publication is one of the most significant contributions to 20^th centruy art, which was produced by artists whose aim was to redefine art while keeping to their individual style and integrity. The group introduced the form of lyrical abstract painting, and contributing artists included Paul Klee, Alexej Jawlensky, August Macke, and Gabriele Münter. There are also a number of temporary exhibits as well in the museum. Information is located there and online, in English.

Admission is 7.50€ for adults, 5€ for students, and children under 6 are free. The museum is open 10am – 6pm April through October, and 10am – 5pm November through March.
